Friends and family would never describe Bonnie as a natural shopper. The prospect of combing through shoes, books, hats and electronics to find that perfect something for someone wasn’t inspiring. This year she is determined to break her sorry-ass pattern. And so devotes weeks to holiday shopping, the way others will hit the gym come January. On Christmas Eve, the night they customarily exchange gifts a blizzard blows through town. Candles are in short supply. In the gathering darkness, the wrapped gifts sit under the tree forgotten while the wind howled outside.
